The Chamber Singers start their 12th season

The Gogebic/Iron Range boasts a choral group that rivals many national professional choruses.  Of the 23 current members of The Chamber Singers, eight are current or retired school music teachers.

The group was started in 1992 to sing madrigals and chamber music and twelve of the original members are still active.  Over the years the repertoire of the group has expanded to include vocal jazz, traditional and contemporary Christmas music, gospel, and classical pieces.  The Chamber Singers usually give a Christmas concert and a spring concert each year and perform for other activities such as benefits, the Jack Frost parade, and the Renaissance Faire.

Their talents are not limited to just singing. Marie Eggleston, one of the founding members, wrote an original composition of “Ave Maria” which the group has sung.   Ken Wiele has arranged many numbers so that local instrumental artists could accompany the music.  Four of the group, Marie Eggleston, Ken Wiele, Eleanor Burla, and Naomi Wegmeyer, normally share the responsibilities of conductor; however other members occasionally try their hand.  Many of the members are also active in local theater groups.

They will be giving their twelfth annual Christmas Concert at Bessemer’s Saint Sebastian Church on Sunday, December 7th, at 4:00 P.M.  There will be a free will donation.  They will also be repeating their performance at the Ontonagon Theater of Performing Arts on Saturday, December 13th at 7:00 P.M. EST. The Chamber Singers is a non-profit group and concert proceeds go towards the purchase of sheet music
